Mobile Suit Gundam (Gundam season 1-3)

I went through the first season of Gundam when my buddy and his wife went on a trip to Europe. So I decided to go through 0079 Gundam season 1. It's only 39 episodes and for the longest time could only be viewed with English audio. Meh, It was ok. I didn't like it at first but I'm hardcore, I can view everything. English didn't fuck it up too much. At the beginning I was somewhat disturbed because of the old cells. Yuck. The washed out outdated look is very hard to watch especially in 2012. But I had three weeks to kill and i did so. 39 episodes is a cake walk compared to the bigger shonen shows like ONE PIECE  but I don't expect much but to absorb what the greats absorbs as children in the 70's.

Since watching the mass traded 0079 dubs the Blurays have hit bringing forth a really nice set piece comparable to newer productions um, well compared to the pixeled fansubs i ran through. Heh.

0079 Gundam Season 1 Amuro! Amuro! Amuro! Everytime a season starts it's a female protagonist repeating over and over the main characters name to get everyone hooked. This has happened in the three seasons I have seen. Amuro is found by a girl running for her life in a panicking side 2 while Amuro (Son of the guy who built Gundam)is found shifting through his dad's bluprints. He and Frow BO end up on White base heading for a new life from the enemy. Anyway White Base, Gundam, Amuro, Frow Bo, Captain Bright and crew have to survive from one side of the galaxy to the other while defending White base from the Invading Zabi family. It may seem primitive but the story is well told and character development gets you hooked, big time. I thought Gundam was all mechs and not much else.

After three seasons in I see that the UC universe has a much more drawn out plot that is like a sci fi /soap opera rather than kiddy mecha show. It starts with a woman named LALA a "NEWTYPE" indian looking girl seen around Char, she has a strong bond with Amuro. Amuro then develops his mental connection in about every other episode and it's not until LALA dies that the viewer is aware to what the newtypes are actually. It takes Amuro from innocent to adult quick. Char Aznable is a badass character who is usually decked out in RED (Even his Zaku is RED) He is a prince on the Zabi family side that loses to Amuro multiple times, and ends up being part of the crew in season 2.

I grew up in the 80's so Transformers (Drawn), Gobots, Voltron, Starblazers, Robotech (3 anime edited) were familiar to me. I've seen all the americanized versions but never the raw format. Gundam is a lot different so far, Entertaining, fascinating, interesting I'm going to watch through till calendar end.

Season 2 Zeta Gundam
Zeta Gundam

Camille! Camille! Camille! The main character in Season 2 is greeted By Fa (plucky 80's stereotype waifu) who scolds him for not going to judo class. There is no longer the threat of the Zabi family so humans have built 40 different tube like colonies around the moon. The new threat is the AEUG (who ultimately end up being the good guys) The Titans (the bad guys) Jupitoris (the third party) and um other (that would really give it away). Bright from white base is back and this time they doubled the number of women and the number of pilot deaths when compared to the first. Char appears as "Captain Quattro". Char ends up befriending Amuro and Camille but still hides what he's doing. Fast forward to Argama (New white base)the crew makes their way across the galaxy while trying to defend space, themselves and keep the 40 colonies safe. make Zeta to compliment camille's style quattro goes back and forth between earth, lots of trading sides, lots of death. Newtypes are grown now and there seem to be an unending supply. Who is supplying them? Pretty much the rementence of the Zabi family.

Hamon Zabi looking devious as always.

Once you get to the end of the 50 episode trek you'll find that Camille has grown older found how to use his newtype power, then gets it taken away by the final attack of Sirocco. Char and Hamon dissappear and just about everything else gets destroyed.
Who lives? Cap Bright, Fa, Camille, the kids, and a few colonies that didn't get gassed. Ouch.

Then Boom. The series Ends. FIN. It's Over. That's it. Questions? too bad. The next season never came to the USA. That Sucks. Oh well right? Fuck that.

What I have yet to watch is "Char's Counter attack" It's the movie that comes after Zeta, but before double Zeta. It will be done after vacation.

I went right to double Zeta because I didn't want to watch any of the movies yet. Movies pertaining to the show Not the 3 Movies which they cobbled together to show people the first season. Don't skip the detail go watch the series. Those movies leave shit out. (Much like my blog on this shit, heh)

Douche

You can tell as soon as you get to Double Zeta Gundam season 3. There are thing's happening where no backstory is given, making it even harder to get into. But the differences show right away. Season 3 has got comedy.

Scrap Wasteland

Judau! Judau! Judau! Onii-Chan! Onii-Chan! Onii-Chan!, oh great it's the little sister shit going down. As jaded as we are , you got to treat it as it is a new concept. Because it was new at the time. Whatever's left of Agama lands on the newtype talked about Shangri-la colony where Judau , his sister and a team of orphans are running around collecting scrap from the war to make ends meet. They end up finding a few busted Zaku and an escape pod. Surprise Surprise it's Yarzan from the Titan's still, alive after getting destroyed by Zeta. Guess what, he has it out for Camille and Argama and as soon as waking up is on the road to capture Zeta.

After a few mix up's and an embarassing encounter with captain Bright, Judou and crew are employed and hop on board the Argama with the help of Lu Luka (Hottie rival) as well as Fuck up-Zabi family-revenge fans of Hamon. Like the Pokemon James taking orders from memories of a dead Jesse,  while spouting non sense about the Zabi Dynasty and never capturing Judau. I'll update as I finish more.

That's the secret to Bright's success. Orphans work cheap.
